Faust

Publieksreacties

“And today opera in the open air. We really enjoyed this. It was a contemporary libretto written to the story of Faust using pieces from a variety of operas to knit the story together. The orchestra was just beautiful as was the chorus but, the stars of the show were very much the soloists.

The highlight was Hoffman’s Barcarole. Delightfully staged with the two singers sitting on swings that had been suspended from a tree.

It was opera pastiche that occasionally crossed over into vaudeville, with the soloists and chorus happily telling Faust to “piss off”. The staging and location were also an absolute joy.

Incredibly effective despite its simplicity and, let us be honest simple and effective is not at all easy to do!

It is a difficult thing to keep classical music accessible and to not dumb it down. The director really managed to get a nice balance. We really enjoyed this show and would go again if we got the chance.” Ian Southan

“It was big, amazing, giant.” Caroline Sanders
